GIVE ME A KISS
The sun may set and rise:
we, when our brief light is out,
shall sleep an everlasting night.
Give me one thousand kisses, then one hundred,
and another thousand, and another hundred,
then up to two thousand, then one hundred more;
then, when we have given many thousands,
we will lose count, we will not know the number
and neither will those who envy us and they will not be able to curse us
with the knowledge of the total of our kisses.
Cayo Valerio Catulo (Century I a. c)
